Known problems

The original aim was to document all known issues. However this is proving extremely difficult to keep up to date as problems are fixed and new problems are found. Therefore I have linked in a spreadsheet which contains a list of all known bugs, enhancement requests and recent fixes.

Know problems with solutions:

Half's displayed incorrectly

  • If the language on the PC is English (US) half's are displayed as '?' rather than '1/2'
  • Use Tools->Options menu option to change the characters used to display and print half, quarter and three-quarters.

Error on Updating

If the 'read only' attribute is set on the database file. the system will not be able to open the file and so will report an error.

Windows XP and multiple languages

Windows XP allows multiple languages to be set up and used, however not all programs are able to control which language it has access to. Tournament Director for Windows is not able to control which of multiple languages it uses. This can cause Tournament Director for Windows problems displaying and printing certain characters (specifically half, quarter and three quarters).

To get around this problem Windows XP allows you to define a default language to be used for these type of programs. Under Windows Control Panel you can set the default language to be English for non UNICODE compliant programs.

Windows Vista

Windows Vista enforces a strict security model that is in Windows XP but not enforced. This means that when Tournament Director for Windows is installed on a Windows Vista machine, the data folder must not be the program install folder (eg c:\program files\). By default, on Windows Vista, Tournament Director for Windows is installed in the c:\program files\tournament director folder and the data folder (where the database will be installed) will be My Documents\TDW.

The display of some of the views and dialogues in Windows Vista is not perfect and needs to be tidied up in a future release. However all the functionality is useable.

If a folder is selected for an output file, which the user does not have write access to, the system will display an error and close the program. The error does not damage the data.

Known problems (without solutions)

These are known problems, that at present, don't have a solution.

  • On Windows 98, the system can hang if the printer is not connected when Windows is started, you then connect the printer and try to print to it.

  • On Windows 98, tournament dates can be changed to 1903 when 2003 has been entered.

  • MDAC 2.8 in Windows 98 and Windows ME machines cause Tournament Director for Windows to crash as soon as it is started.
