Windows Vista

Tournament Director for Windows can be installed and run on Windows Vista.

When installing Tournament Director for Windows on Windows Vista a number of errors are raised complaining about components being out of date or invalid. If these errors are ignored Tournament Director for Windows will install and it can then be run without any problems.


Windows 95 and
Windows 98 Installation

Tournament Director for Windows can be installed and run on Windows 98 (first edition) and Windows 95 machines. When you insert the CD, it will automatically run, but you will get error messages during installation.

Three messages will be displayed:

  • An error occurred while registering the file
    'c:\program files\system\ado\msador15.dll'
     
  • An error occurred while registering the file
    'c:\windows\system\msadox.dll'
     
  • An error occurred while registering the file
    'c:\windows\system\msjro.dll'

Just click on Ignore button to bypass these errors.

If you then run Tournament Director for Windows the following error message will be displayed:

'ActiveX component can't create object'

To solve these problems additional programs need to be downloaded and installed (all downloads on this page are standard Microsoft installation packages).

  • If you do not have Internet Explorer 5 or later as follows:
    • Download and install the latest version of Internet Explorer from Microsoft
    • Reboot your PC if prompted.
       
  • Download and install MDAC as follows:
    • Download MDAC Download MDAC
    • run mdac_type.exe
    • follow the on screen prompts to install mdac
    • reboot your PC if prompted
       
  • Install MSJet as follows:
    • Download MSJet Download msjet
    • run jet40sp3_Comp.exe
    • this installs without any on screen prompt (so be patient)
       
  • Reinstall Tournament Director for Windows.

You can then run Tournament Director for Windows.

Other installation problems

"Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly registered"

To get around this problem you must download and install MS Jet as follows:

  • Download jet40sp3_Comp Download jet
  • run jet40sp3_Comp.exe
  • this installs without any on screen prompt
     

"An error occurred while registering the file c:\windows\system\mstext40.dll"

Follow the instructions above for installing Tournament Director for Windows on a Windows 95 or Windows 98 machine.
